What We Do

Kat at fees demoLabour Students exists to take the Labour message to students and to stand up for people at college and university within the Labour Party’s structures.

The part of Labour Students that you will see most often is your local college or university Labour Club. These groups usually meet weekly on campus and invite along a speaker — such as an MP, MSP, AM, or a campaigner from an NGO — or take part in a debate, discussion or film night. It’s about meeting regularly with people who share your values and having the chance to have your say.

Labour Students also organises regional events, where people from Labour Clubs all across a region come together to meet and share experiences. Often, these events will take place in the evening and be attended by a high-profile guest.

We are also a campaigning organisation, proud of our values, and put these into practice. We lobby the Government on issues like sexual health services, child poverty and international development, backing this up with visible campaigns. We also work to get Labour MPs, MSPs, MEPs, AMs and Councillors elected — because it is with Labour in power that people get the best deal.

Labour Students works in Students’ Unions and in the National Union of Students (NUS) to further our progressive values in the student movement. We stand candidates for election in the NUS and support our members who are elected student officers around the country in any way that we can.

Our national events give you the opportunity to spend time with other Labour Students from up and down the UK, hear from and speak with high-profile government ministers and get new insight into Labour in government. These events also give us the opportunity to come together to take decisions as a group.

Whatever you choose to do with Labour Students, you’ll have the chance to shape the future. So go ahead and get involved — make your voice heard.
