Every year Labour Students have focused on an issue close to our hearts to spread Labour values across our campuses. We’ve had great success with campaigns such as the Living Wage campaigns not only working with trade unions and universities to raise workers’ wages but giving students a platform to improve their organising and leadership skills.
This year our focus is making sure further and higher education are accessible for all, not for the few. We want the Tories to know that Labour Students will not stand for locks being put on people’s access to education. We’ve seen the damage the Tories did in the Coalition government over the last five years, from tripling tuition fees to £9000 to scraping EMA and Aim Higher, so many people were locked out of an education that could have improved their lives. We can’t stand for the damage to continue. Labour Students will be at the forefront of protecting everyone’s opportunity to learn.
We want your club to shape the campaign; we want a campaign which works best on and around your campus to unlock accessing education. Whether it’s pairing up with a college to help more students access higher education or if it’s creating a trusted landlord list to make sure your stretched maintenance loan is being used fairly.
Labour Students is the key to keeping further and higher education as accessible as possible while the Tories are in number 10.
