The Labour Government has given Leeds City Council more powers to protect students in private rented accommodation, yet the Tories and Lib Dems, who run the city council, remain soft on rogue landlords.  Year after year thousands of Leeds students are let down by landlords who fail to keep their properties up to standard and who dishonestly withhold refunds of deposits.  Despite this, the City Council does little to improve the situation.
