Girls, for the first time in decades, are able to go to school; there are 60% more health centres now and infant mortality has plummeted. Afghanistan was astonishingly under-developed while it was ruled by the Taliban but now, thanks to international aid and support, life is getting better for millions of Afghans.
The Labour Government’s Department for International Development is investing millions of pounds in new school buildings and facilities for Afghan children, has recently built a new water dam to provide electricity to 2 million Afghan homes and has pledged £10 million to clear landmines.
Join Labour MP Robert Blackman-Woods and Durham University Club's campaign to support the Labour Government’s investment in developing world, especially in Afghanistan. We believe Afghan men, women and children deserve good healthcare, a decent education, a thriving economy and full human rights and we urge the Government to continue its efforts to bring these things about through its international work.
