Labour Students Women’s Conference

Last weekend women Labour Students activists came together in London to hear from inspirational speakers and to elect our Women’s Officer and the first Labour Students Women’s Committee.

Baroness Anita Gale, Emily Thornberry MP and Ann Keen MP all addressed the conference and were well received.  Their speeches focused on the struggle for women’s equality, improving equal access to health care and their experiences as MPs and woman in politics.

A great day was had by all.  Liv Bailey, NUS Women’s Officer and a Labour Student, set out the priorities for the NUS Women’s Campaign in the year ahead.  We talked about the direction of the Labour Student’s Women’s Campaign and what our priority will be in the coming academic year. It was decided that we will focus on tackling domestic violence, rape conviction rates and women’s representation.

Chloe Howard, Chair of Liverpool Labour Club, was elected as Labour Students Women’s Officer and Carrie Martin, Merida Craxten-Mathen, Georgia Elliott and Katherine O’Brien were all elected to Women’s Committee.
